Robert “Bob” Clancy has become just the second member of the Westlake Kiwanis Club top be honored as a Fellow in the George F. Hixson Fellowship, The Fellowship was created in was created in 1983 to honor the first Kiwanis International President.  The Club’s House Committee Chairman and Past Lieutenant Governor William S. Sifritt became a Hixson Fellow in September 1998.

At the presentation ceremony held during a recent club meeting Dennis Clough Mayor of Westlake announced his proclamation that that day had been designated “Robert Clancy Day” in Westlake.  Craig Baker, representing his wife Nan, a state representative, read a proclamation from the state legislature. Westlake Police Chief Richard Wallings praised Bob’s work for the force.

An individual recommended by his or her club with a $1,000 contribution to the Fellowship, must have exhibited unusual dedication and leadership to the youth of the club’s community. The $1,000 contribution will help establish a $1.75 million annual fund for grants and aid to children and youth throughout the world.

Bob served as president of the Westlake Club in1991, just three years after he joined in 1988 and currently serves on the Board of Directors, Long time member Al Smith sponsored Bob for the membership.  Smith, who was unable to attend the meeting, sent a letter of congratulations.

Bob also served as Lieutenant Governor of Division 14 in 2003-2004. Sifritt proudly recommended Bob for the position.

But Bob’s greatest contribution to the club has been his service to the community and especially his service to the youth of the community.  Bob is the Kiwanis advisor to the Westlake High School Key Club and is active in all the activities of the club, not to mention being the chief pancake mixer at the club’s biannual breakfasts.

Law enforcement has been Bob’s dedication.  He joined the Westlake Police Force in 1974 and was in charge of the motor pool for some time.  He retired in 2002, but couldn’t stay away, rejoining the force as Community Service Office in 2006.

Bob has always been a motorcycle enthusiast and is a member of the Blue Knights.

Bob and his lovely wife, Joanne, a member of the Elyria Kiwanis Club, live in North Ridgeville.  Bob has become expert in “signing” because one of his daughters is hearing impaired.  This ability has helped him greatly in his law enforcement work and in his work with youth.
