ESTHER RYAN SHOE FUND PROJECT
I want to congratulate a
llof the Lt. Governors, clubs and members who made our Esther Ryan Shoe fund project a tremendous success. We met on the morning of Sept. 29th with Esther Ryan who gave us the history of how her project has evolved over the last 25 years. After her talk, we presented her with checks and shoes totaling nearly $3,000.00. Esther and I were overwhelmed by the generosity shown. I guess that I really should not be surprised at this, since I have seen Kiwanians time and again step up when children are involved.
FIRST LADY’S PROJECT
First Lady Marge’s project for this year is Pediatric Trauma, Prevention and Treatment. A goal of $2,000 per Division has been established. All donations will be placed in an account with the Ohio Kiwanis Foundation. It is First Lady Marge’s hope that local groups, in conjunction with a Kiwanis club, will apply for grants to get equipment to be used by trauma units to treat pediatric trauma victims. These local groups could be EMS, a pediatric hospital or other unit that treats children.
One way for divisions and clubs to participate is to award a Past International Presidents Award to a deserving Kiwanian. The cost of the award is $500.00 with one half of the amount going to the First Lady’s project and one half to the Foundation’s Endowment Fund. In other words, a Past International Presidents Award will benefit both the Foundation and the First Lady’s project. It is a win-win situation. It would be a great honor for us to present these Past International Presidents Awards during our official visit to your division.
